Anything I need to know before dyeing my hair red at home?

My mom is helping me dye my hair red using Revlon ColorSilk in Medium Auburn. I have plain, thick, voluomus, brown hair. Is there a big chance that something my go wrong? And also, how much more expensive would it be to go to the salon to get it done?

revlon colorsilk is quite nice, i use it a lot, but any red shade in any brand is going to fade very quickly. to prevent that, try using a special shampoo for color treated hair, or even buying a shampoo made for natural or colored red hair to help it keep its color. there isn't really a big chance that something will go wrong unless you miss a spot or don't have enough dye (make sure you have two boxes if your hair is really that thick and you can use a wide toothed comb to help distribute the dye evenly). getting it done at a salon can be very expensive, depending on where you go, just like hair cuts can be. if you do decide to go to a salon, i would check into something simple like bestcuts first, especialy if you're doing all over color. higher end salons (i went to one where a haircut cost 42 dollars) can be ridiculously expensive, but they are more helpful, will know more about what colors will look good on you, and will probably not mess the color up in anyway.

Going to the salon would atleast be $75 or more depending on where you go. However, the results will turn out better.

If I were you, I would test a small piece of hair first to see what the color will turn out being as the final product.

Good luck with your hair!

I used to do my own hair at home (red) I have been every shade of red including purple and orange. I get mine colored at a salon every 4-5 wks now and love it. It usually costs @ $60. Red is the hardest color to keep it fades really bad. I can usually see color wash out for 3 days after I get mine colored. My stylist uses Redken color also which is good stuff.

its best to go to a salon they would tell you wether it would come out right. i dont kno the cost but call the salon up and ask them question about your hair.
