How to get a rock hard matt out of my husbands hair?

He has a matt in his hair that's really big, I have no idea how it got there, how do I get it out?? We have tried all kinds of conditioner, detangler, and it's knotted so tight, it seems like it isn't going to come out ever, but that's not an option...it has to come out without cutting it...help!!!!

when it is dry, take a comb (or your fingers) and just go at it a little piece at a time like a puzzle, when I was little someone told me to be GENTLE whenever I was trying to untie a knot, and it has never failed me, just use your fingers and gently seperate a little bit at a time, I am sure this will work :o)

Take him to a stylist and let her slowly and carefully pick it out. If you refuse to do that...use a detangler and conditioner and leave it in his hair while you use the end of a rattail comb to start at the outter edges of the matted hair and pick it out a hair at a time.

This may seem wierd, but put some peanut butter on it and get a wide tooth comb and comb through very slowly. If that does'nt work short cuts are in :)

I had brain surgery, and i also have long hair, The nurses put my hair in a pony tail and cap off as much as they could, anyway after having 80 staples taken out of my head, right on the hair line, I had a big clump or hard matt in my hair so I used Hair and mane conditioner, you can get it at wal-mart, longs, rite-aid, any stores, i put it my on not in my hair, alot of it put a plastic bag around it tied it and left it all night, the next day it was gone.
