Can you help me get rid of my hair oil slick?

Since I was a little girl (I'm 27 now) I've had the biggest problem with oily hair. I've tried every treatment from special shampoos to witch hazel. My mom used to say you could fry things in my hair. I hate it. I can wash my hair and halfway through the day (without excessive brushing or even touching it with my hands, I know that's a big NO-NO) it's an oil slick.... PLEASE HELP!!!!!

my hair used to be oily like yours, now it's only at the roots after a day or so. But what I did (and still do, to avoid over-washing as my ends are now dry and damaged) is use dry shampoo. It's basically a spray powder. You spray it like hairspray (an arm's lengh away) on your roots, the parts that are most visibly oily. The manufacturers say to leave it in, then brush it out. I find that does not give me good results. I spray it, then when I think I've hit all the spots, I use my fingers to fluff it through. Only if I have over-sprayed do I try to brush it out.

Basically, the powder (which may be cornstarch, oat, stuff like that) absorbs the oil and gives your hair a more matte appearance. It will also create body and fluff. If you ask me, the stuff's a miracle.

There's not a ton of it out there, so it can be a little challenging to find. If your local drug-store is old-fashioned, they may carry the brand called "Pssssssst". Seriously, that's the name. It's like $5 a can. It's my least favorite of the brands, but the most readily accessible if you can't wait to order online.

If you do order online, try Algemarin. It has a scent that at first I thought was perfume-y, but then turns a little lemony. That's my current favorite. The other really good one is Klorane. I don't recall it being very heavily scented. These two are a little more pricey, like $15 with shipping. But like I said, worth their weight in gold.

Well, sometimes if you rinse with REALLY cold water that helps a little. Blow drying helps alot too but even doing that it still gets kind of greasy for me. The ice water shower may seem unbearable at first but you should try it.

What are you using on your hair now?...Sometimes if you use a good moisturizing shampoo, it will stop your scalp from producing so much oil. If you dry your scalp out too much by shampooing, your scalp will overcompensate by producing more oil. Try Redken or purology.
